Baskerville Yields Close Games, Multiple Saves

16 August 2010, 16:46 (ET)

By Tom H.

GLEN ALLEN, VA — This past Saturday, August 14, the Virginia Saints travelled to Baskerville Correctional Center. The team played against the Baskerville All-Star Team. The first game was close with Baskerville jumping out to an early lead, but the Saints came back late in the game to win 8-5. The highlight of the game was Joaquin M. crushing a home run! The second game was also close with the Saints coming from behind in the bottom of the 7th inning for a 12-11 win!

Between the games, the Saints had the opportunity to pass out tracts and Gospels of John to about 200 men who watched the game. Approximately 100 men stayed to listen to Dave W. give his testimony and Chris C. bring the message of God's salvation. Of the 33 decision cards returned, 22 men rededicated their lives to Christ, 6 men said that they were not yet ready to accept Christ, and 5 men were added to the Kingdom of God, accepting Christ as their Lord and Savior!

It was good to see several men the team has gotten to know over the years and to hear them call out our names as we entered the facility. There are some characters at Baskerville; please remember to pray for James, Daryl, A-K, Mug, Chucky, and the dozens of other men that we talked with and ministered to.

Our next ministry opportunity is on Wednesday, September 1 at Deep Meadow Correctional Center, making up a postponed visit from July. Additionally, the 2010 Virginia Saints Mountain State Crusade is schedule for Sept 17-19. We will be traveling to Anthony and Denmar Correctional Centers in West Virginia and to Harrisonburg Correctional Center in Rockingham County, Virginia, playing at least 6 games and undertaking 5 ministry opportunities!
